DESCRIPTION:Speaker: Dr Phil Arena\n\nWhy do democracy and peace tend to g
 o together? We contend that democracy is unlikely to flourish where war is
  most likely to occur\, and thus the correlation between the two is likely
  spurious. A theoretical model develops the logic\, and statistical analys
 is lends support to the primary observable implications.\n\nPhil Arena is 
 a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Government at the University of Ess
 ex. Before that\, he held appointments at the University of Rochester and 
 the University of Buffalo. His primary research interests are internationa
 l conflict and the links between domestic and international politics.
