DESCRIPTION:Interested in learning more about the inner workings of the UN
? Come and listen to a panel of former UN staff members share their experi
ences. There will also be an opportunity to have a chat and a glass of  w
ine afterwards.\n\nPanelists\n\nStephanie La Hoz Theuer - A climate policy
expert with over 10 years of experience in the regulation and implementat
ion of market instruments for climate change. After five years in the priv
ate sector and another five at the United Nations Climate Change Secretari
at\, her current focus is policy research on economic and financial instru
ments for climate change mitigation and adaptation. She holds a Production
Engineering degree from the University of Sao Paulo (Brazil)\, and is cur
rently part of the MPhil programme in Environmental Policy at Cambridge Un
 iversity.\n\nVictoria Stewart-Jolley - PhD candidate\, POLIS - former UNV\
, UNDP\, Indonesia (planning officer)\, special assistant to the SRSG\, DP
 A\, Iraq\, and UNDP Elect consultant\, Albania\, Solomon Islands and 2014
 Afghan recount.\n\nChair\n\nDr Devon Curtis\, University Lecturer\, POLIS.
Formerly employed at UN Staff College.\n\nFor those hoping to pursue a ca
reer in the ‘Third Sector’\, especially amidst a broad range of organi
sations and agencies whose mandates can be loosely collected under the umb
rella headings of ‘Human Rights and Social Justice’\, ‘Conflict and
Security’ or ‘Development and Humanitarian Aid\,’ the terrain can be
difficult to navigate. A sound academic training\, the kind provided by C
ambridge University\, is important but certainly not enough to prepare stu
dents for the transition into working in this sector. Through a mixture of
substantive discussion\, personal reflection and practical advice\, the C
GHR Practitioner Series brings together high‐level experts working in th
ese fields and creates a forum in which students and researchers can liste
n and ask questions about what this work actually involves\, seek out refl
ections from experience on the dilemmas and challenges faced\, and probe t
he skill set and experience needed to forge a career in these fields.\n\nM
