DESCRIPTION:Colour images are much more than three bands of red\, green an
d blue. The sensation of colour is the result of our sensing of the energy
within the visible band from about 380nm to 730nm in wavelength. In order
to capture the information required to reproduce the colour sensation of
the objects under varying illuminations\, we need an accurate spectral est
imate obtained from measurements obtained by the camera. I will briefly re
view the colour science needed to understand what is needed for accurate c
olour capture. Then\, I will discuss how sparsity and compressed sensing m
ay be used to obtain the spectral estimates at the accuracy required for q
uality control of colour imaging applications.
