DESCRIPTION:Models for the flow of a Bingham fluid within a porous materia
l will be derived. These include unidirectional flows of various kinds\, f
lows in structured 2D domains such as square\, triangular and hexagonal ne
tworks\, and flows in random 2D networks. Some these ideas will then be ap
plied to convective flows of Bingham fluids. Nonlinear computations are al
so presented\, and it is found that the flow patterns are strongly affecte
d by the detailed microstructure. We consider briefly some free convective
flows in sidewall-heated cavities and the porous medium analogue of the B
énard problem. In the latter case the basic state is linearly stable for
all values of the Rayleigh number\, but large-amplitude disturbances can c
 ause convective motion.
