SUMMARY:Electron beam stabilisation for a synchrotron: An example of the
control of spatio-temporal systems - Stephen Duncan\, Oxford University

DESCRIPTION:This talk will describe a range of systems whose properties va
ry with both location as well as time. The challenge of designing controll
ers for these systems will be illustrated by describing the implementation
of a system for controlling the position of the electron beam for Diamond
Light source\, the UK's national synchrotron facility. The resulting cont
roller is a large scale multi-input\, multi-output system which is updated
at 10kHz. The importance of considering the system in terms of its spatia
l frequency response as well as its dynamic response will emphasised.
