 particularly promising application area for data science is computer netwo
 rk security.  I will talk about some general issues with analysing big dat
 a to discover security problems in large computer networks\, and some tech
 niques that have been successful. My talk will also include an excuse to e
 at more chocolate.\n\nMiranda Mowbray works at HP Labs Bristol\, where she
  researches new ways of analyzing data to detect attacks on computer netwo
 rks. She did Parts II and III Maths at Cambridge\, and a PhD in Algebra at
  London. She is a Fellow of the British Computer Society.
