SUMMARY:Looking at proteins in live cells with atomic resolution: From Sci
ence Fiction to Science Reality - Dr. Phil Selenko\, FMP Berlin

CONTACT:Jerome Charmet
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Phil Selenko\, will provide an update on his developments
that enable in-cell aggregate characterisation. Hee will present recent pr
ogress in applying in-cell NMR and EPR methods to delineate full-scale ato
mic-resolution descriptions of the structure(s) and dynamics of the intrin
sically disordered human amyloid protein alpha-synuclein in different mamm
alian cell types. Specifically\, he will address whether specialized cells
such as dopaminergic neurons promote the conversion of monomeric alpha-sy
nuclein into folded helical tetramers as has been suggested recently. In t
hat sense\, 'to fold or not to fold' is the question that he intends to an
 swer in this seminar.
