DESCRIPTION:I illustrate what we have learned on galaxy evolution using in
 tegral-field spectroscopy.  In particular I will show that a novel but con
 sistent picture of galaxy evolution is emerging\, which can explain both t
 he detailed observations of nearby galaxies and their redshift evolution o
 ut to z~3.\n
