DESCRIPTION:Prestellar cores are stellar mass high density structures embe
 dded in molecular clouds which are thought to be the forerunners of protos
 tars.  I will give a brief overview of their properties and of the debate 
 concerning their evolution.  Recent ALMA observations show evidence for th
 e presence of structures of around a thousand AU in diameter in a couple o
 f these cores.  I will discuss what one can say about the nature of these 
 objects and whether they throw any light upon how these cores will evolve.
