DESCRIPTION:In one of the classic feminist essays of the twentieth century
\, anthropologist Emily Martin argued that the master narrative of the egg
and sperm recapitulates deeply gendered narratives of romance and adventu
re. Offering a challenge to these cultural scripts\, Martin called for alt
ernatives\, including new models of both biology and culture. The Reproduc
tive Sociology Research Group (ReproSoc) is proud to sponsor Professor Mar
tin's reprise of her original essay on the eve of its 25th anniversary.
