DESCRIPTION:*The orientation in which a cell divides is determined by the
angle of the\nmitotic spindle. Spindle orientation is well studied in\nasy
 mmetrically-dividing cells\, like Drosophila neuroblasts\, which use\norie
nted divisions to determine daughter cell fate. Less attention has\nbeen p
aid to the spindle orientation in symmetrically-dividing epithelial\ncells
\, which orient divisions to build and maintain epithelial sheets. My\nwor
k in the St Johnston lab is focused on two questions: 1) How does\nspindle
orientation work in these tissues? 2) What happens when it\ndoesn't?*
