DESCRIPTION:The classification of foliated surfaces by Brunella\, McQuilla
 n and Mendes\ncarries many similarities with Enriques-Kodaira classificati
 on of surfaces but also many\nimportant differences. I will discuss an alt
 ernative classification scheme where the role of\ndifferential forms along
  the leaves is replaced by differential forms along the leaves with\nvalue
 s in fractional powers of the conormal bundle of the foliation. In this al
 ternative\nsetup one obtains a classification of foliated surfaces closer 
 to the usual Enriques-Kodaira\nclassification. If time permits\, I will sh
 ow how to apply this alternative classification\nto describe the Zariski c
 losure of the set foliations which admit rational first integral of\nbound
 ed genus in families of foliated surfaces. Joint work with Jorge Vitorio P
