DESCRIPTION:The survival into the last third of the twentieth century of a
  highly decentralised and community-based Swiss political system depended 
 on the very special decentralised Swiss economy. The economic crisis of th
 e 1970s destroyed that economy and began what has  become a crisis of Swis
 s identity.
