DESCRIPTION:\nAs chemical engineers\, many of us will end up working in hi
 gh hazard industries where safety is a critical part of our role and the p
 otential consequences of failing\nto manage risks can be catastrophic. The
 refore\, it is important for chemical engineers to understand the ways to 
 manage these risks\, both in the more traditional\nchemical engineering 
 ‘process safety’ environment and more broadly so that safety becomes a
 n integral part of how we work. This talk will look more deeply at the saf
 ety risks we may encounter\, the reasons we manage safety andhow we can go
  about it across a range of industries.\nBio:\nKatie Coull is currently a 
 manager in Arthur D. Little’s Risk Practice in Cambridge. She\njoined th
 e firm in October 2010 as a fresh graduate from a master’s degree in Che
 mical\nEngineering at this Department. Since joining Arthur D. Little\, sh
 e has gained experience\nin managing safety risk across a variety of indus
 tries and functions on projects\nboth in the UK and abroad.
