DESCRIPTION:How did people travel by sea after the Vikings and before the 
 Age of Exploration? Using records from the Anglo-Norman realm\, which span
 ned across the English Channel over the late eleventh and twelfth centurie
 s\, this paper will investigate the processes involved in medieval sailing
 . From stories of disasters at sea involving shipwrecks\, storms\, drunken
  sailors\, and pirate attacks\, it is possible to reconstruct the everyday
  features of travel in the medieval age of sail.
