DESCRIPTION: Looking back at science-fiction films from even a few decade
s ago\, it is only natural to feel disappointed\; sure\, everyone has a sm
artphone now\, but where are the flying cars? The personal jetpacks & rock
etships? And\, perhaps most importantly - where are all the robotic butler
s?\n This talk shall address the latter question\, by considering the fun
damental systemic problems in computer science\, which prevent it from ful
ly addressing the problem of general intelligence\; and\, moreover\, the w
ays in which geology has actually overcome a lot of these problems during
its own history. Watch out\, world - for when artificial intelligence arri
ves onto the stage\, its creator will be not a programmer\, but a geologis
 t.
