DESCRIPTION:Please note that the talks will be held in the Jock Colville H
all\, for this week only.\n\nThe recreation of human senses and ability to
process them has been a driving force of many research fields in Computer
Science recently and determining the origin of a sound source is an examp
le of particular recent interest. We shall explore some of the methods of
localisation that are emerging from both physical analysis and biological
inspiration. There are many design challenges and potential performance li
mitations of each implementation - those considered in this talk range fro
m the simple two-microphone array to KEMAR heads\, examining both time and
frequency based cues and considering the industries benefiting from them.
