DESCRIPTION:We hear much about the impending rise of nano-machines\, but i
 s this science or science fiction? \nIn this talk Professor Jeremy Baumber
 g FRS\, Director of the Nanophotonics Centre at the University of Cambridg
 e will discuss the state of this field\, highlighting recent advances\, an
 d mapping our progress.\n\nJeremy Baumberg is widely recognised as a leadi
 ng innovator in his field: in 2013\, he won the Physics Young Medal\, and 
 a fellowship with the Royal Society in 2011. \nHe has developed new device
 s within Hitachi and IBM\, and particularly interested in the development 
 of nanostructured optical materials. \n\nAs usual\, the talk will be follo
 wed by wine and cheese\nThe talk is free to members\, and £2 for non-memb
 ers - there will be the opportunity to buy lifetime membership for £15 on
  the night.
