DESCRIPTION:Ricci solitons are generalizations of Einstein metrics. They w
ere introduced by R. Hamilton in the late 80's to study the behaviour of t
he Ricci flow. In this talk I will discuss some of the basic notions aroun
d Ricci solitons and see how they are used to understand the Ricci flow. I
n particular we will analyse the long time behaviour of the flow and study
  its singularities via blow-up methods.
