DESCRIPTION:We study the impact of emotions on real-world decisions made b
y loan officers by\nanalyzing the loan conditions of loans granted immedia
tely after a bank branch\nrobbery. We find significant differences in cond
itions of the loans granted after a\nrobbery compared to changes in loan c
onditions that occur contemporaneously at\nunaffected branches. In general
loan officers seem to adopt so-called avoidance\nbehaviour. In accordance
with the literature on posttraumatic stress their avoidance\nbehavior is
halved within two weeks after the robbery and the effect further varies\nd
epending on the presence of a firearm during the robbery.
