DESCRIPTION:The Joint Center for Energy Storage Research (JCESR) pursues h
 igh performance\, inexpensive beyond lithium ion electricity storage that 
 will transform transportation and the electricity grid. JCESR will leave t
 hree legacies:\n\n1. A library of fundamental knowledge of the materials a
 nd phenomena of energy storage at the atomic and molecular level\n2. Two p
 rototypes\, one for the grid and one for transportation\, that\, when scal
 ed to manufacturing will be able to deliver five times the energy density 
 at one-fifth the cost\n3. A new paradigm for battery R&D combining discove
 ry science\, battery design\, research prototyping and manufacturing colla
 boration in a single highly interactive organization\, that accelerates th
 e pace of discovery and innovation and significantly shortens the time fro
 m conceptualization to commercialization.\n\nThe lecture will give an intr
 oduction to JCESR’s vision\, mission and legacies and be followed by an 
 overview of progress and outlook toward achieving our goals in the fundame
 ntal science of storage\, research prototypes for next generation batterie
 s and a new paradigm for battery R&D.\n\n \n
