DESCRIPTION:With global warming continuing\, cities are under more severe
threats from weather hazards. Because many of the infrastructures in citie
s were built decades ago and the increased climate risks associated with g
lobal warming have not been taken into consideration\, cities have become
more vulnerable\, which have severe consequences in terms of casualties an
d property losses.\n\nIn this talk\, evidence will be presented on how the
risks associated with different types of weather hazards have increased d
uring the past few decades. These include heat waves\, enhanced rainfall a
mount and rainfall intensity\, and sea-level rise. Examples of what have b
een done in some cities to mitigate the impacts from these risks will also
  be given.
