DESCRIPTION:We consider a coupled bulk-surface system of partial different
 ial equations\nwith nonlinear coupling\, that models receptor-ligand dynam
 ics\, as well as some\nbiologically\nrelevant asymptotic limits of the mod
 el.  The model arises as a simplification\nof a mathematical model for the
  reaction between cell surface resident\nreceptors\nand ligands present in
  the bulk region surrounding the cell.\n\nWe discuss the existence and uni
 queness of solutions to the original and\nlimiting problems and also comme
 nt on connections\nwith classical free boundary problems. The theoretical 
 results are supported\nwith a number of numerical simulations.\n\nThe talk
  is based on joint work with C. Elliott (Warwick) and T. Ranner\n(Leeds).
