DESCRIPTION:One usually thinks of the topological fundamental group of a s
 pace as loops at some basepoint modulo basepoint homotopy. However\, there
  is another way to view it\, namely as an automorphism group of a functor.
  This perspective has been used in defining similar objects in other branc
 hes of mathematics\, e.g the etale fundamental group of algebraic geometry
 . In this talk I will discuss the theory of Tannakian categories\, in whic
 h this alternative point of view on the fundamental group finds a natural 
 home.
