DESCRIPTION:Professor Michael Anderson will be conducting the drama worksh
 op as part of an International Research project on Applied Theatre and His
 tory learning.  This workshop will be extremely interesting for PGCE stude
 nts\, Primary and Secondary History and English particularly.  It will als
 o provide a great opportunity for other postgraduates\, and undergraduates
 \, interested in Arts Education research to see some empirical research - 
 in action!\n\nThis workshop will give you some hands on experience to teac
 h history and historical concepts with and through drama. In the interacti
 ve workshop session students will use poetry\, improvisation and other dra
 ma techniques to respond to issues and ideas relating to WW1. The centenar
 y of the Great War\, recognized in many countries in 2015-2018 will provid
 e the context through which drama participants will explore the nature of 
 the relationship between historical imagination\, knowledge creation and e
 mbodied learning. The processes and programs will be useful for anyone con
 sidering teaching history to children and young people in an engaging and 
 deep way. This workshop is part of a broader research program bringing tog
 ether drama and history education specialists working in four countries (U
 K\, Canada\, New Zealand and Australia) that explores the use of drama ped
 agogy to develop historical consciousness in students.\n\n*Michael Anderso
 n* is Professor in the Faculty of Education and Social Work at The Univers
 ity of Sydney. His research and teaching concentrates the role of creativi
 ty\, the arts (particularly drama) and play have on learning. This work ha
 s evolved into a program of research and publication that explores how aes
 thetic education is changing learning in the 21st century.
