DESCRIPTION:“Transient receptor potential (TRP) channels form a superfam
ily of cation channels involved in a wide variety of physiological and pat
hophysiological processes. In particular\, several mammalian TRP channels
are expressed in sensory neurons\, where they act as molecular sensors of
thermal and chemical cues. Here\, an overview will be provided of recent i
nsights into the molecular and cellular regulation of somatosensory TRP ch
annels\, and how this impacts on thermosensation. Finally\, the involvemen
t of sensory TRP channels in pathophysiological processes will be illustra
ted\, and the potential of these channels as novel drug targets will be di
 scussed.”
