DESCRIPTION:“Economic choice is the behavior observed when individuals m
ake choices solely based on subjective preferences. Representative example
s include choices made out of a restaurant menu and choices between differ
ent financial investments. Economic choice is thought to involve two menta
l stages: subjective values are assigned to the available options\, and a
decision is made by comparing values. Lesion studies in humans and other s
pecies establish a link between economic decisions and the orbitofrontal c
ortex (OFC). In a series of studies conducted in non-human primates\, we i
dentified in this area three groups of neurons encoding the identities and
subjective values of offered and chosen goods. In the seminar\, I will de
scribe our current understanding of this neural circuit and the role it ma
y play in economic decisions.” \n\n
