DESCRIPTION:The common observation of power laws in all aspects of plastic
 ity may have its origin in the self-organised-criticality of the dislocati
 on structures produced by deformation.  It is possible\, using the model o
 f the tilted ellipsoidal slip band\, to explain the observed exponents\, a
 nd in some cases\, to predict the constant in the relationship and to comp
 are it with experiment.
