DESCRIPTION:Polina Barskova was born in Leningrad in 1976\, began writing 
 poetry at the age of eight and then for many years attended the studio (
 ‘kruzhok’) for writing children led by poet Viacheslav Leikin. She pub
 lished her first book of poetry Christmas in 1991\, and is now widely reco
 gnized as one of the major contemporary Russian poets of her generation.  
 Currently\, her eighth book of poetry Master of the Garden is in print in 
 St. Petersburg.\n\nThree collections of her poetry have appeared recently 
 in English translations: This Lamentable City\, trans. Ilya Kaminsky (2010
 )\, The Zoo in Winter\, trans. Boris Dralyuk & David Stromberg (2011)\, an
 d Relocations\, translated and edited by Catherine Ciepiela (2013).  Engli
 sh-language reviews have recognized in Barskova “a voice of stunning ori
 ginality and eroticism” and “an extraordinary amount of vocal variatio
 n.”\n\nNow Barskova lives in Amherst (MA) with her daughter Frosia where
  she is teaching Russian literature at Hampshire College\, working on a pr
 oject entitled The Ruin Screams: Culture in the Besieged Leningrad (1941-4
 4)\, and on new books of her poetry and prose both in Russian and in Engli
 sh translation. At the end of 2015 Barskova received Andrey Bely Prize for
  her book of prose Living Pictures.
