DESCRIPTION:In this light-hearted talk\, philosopher Iain King will discus
s how we might construct a system of ethics if we suddenly discovered\, in
stead of being human\, we were\, in fact\, another creature - such as wood
land elves.\n\nIain King will explain how the ideas he developed as a Fell
ow of Wolfson College and in his book _How to Make Good Decisions and Be R
ight All the Time_ may overcome vexing issues in meta-ethics\, including t
he Frege-Geach Problem\, the Fact-Value Gap\, and the Open Question Argume
nt. He will then show how a community of elves (or humans) may use the ap
proach to develop a system of practical ethics.\n\n*No prior knowledge of
philosophical concepts will be required for this talk\, although the abili
ty to think and/or laugh will be encouraged.*\n\n"A summary of Iain King's
  Quasi-Utilitarianism is available here":http://iainbking.com/ethics/ethic
s-explained-in-53-bullet-points/\n\n*Bio*\n\nIain King CBE FRSA has a back
