 ly invites you to the Ver Heyden de Lancey Medico-Legal Lecture on Friday 
 5th February at 5.00pm in room LG 18 at the Faculty of Law.\n\nThe lecture
  will be delivered by Mr James Badenoch QC\, who was counsel for the succe
 ssful appellant in Montgomery v Lanarkshire Health Board [2015] UKSC 11\, 
 which concerned a medical practitioner's duty to disclose information to t
 heir patient as part of securing the patient's consent to undergo medical 
 treatment.\n\nThe Supreme Court decision in Montgomery overruled the 30-ye
 ar old authority of the House of Lords decision in Sidaway. The speaker wi
 ll address the controversial issue of whether and to what extent this repr
 esents a dramatic change in the law\, and the future implications for medi
 cal practice\, liability and regulation. \n\nThe topic is of great practic
 al importance for clinicians and will be of considerable interest for lawy
 ers (particularly medical or tort lawyers) as well as those working in med
 ical ethics\, sociology and related fields. The lecture will include a Q&A
  session at the end. \n\nAdmission is free but registration for the lectur
