SUMMARY:Probing gene control at the molecular stage - Professor Mark C. Le
 ake\, University of York

DESCRIPTION:Genes can be switched on and off through the binding of protei
ns called transcription factors to specific regions of DNA. Here I will ou
tline cutting-edge experiments and analyses using bespoke single-molecule
fluorescence microscopy and theoretical biophysics approaches which enable
us to monitor this process in individual living cells in their unique phy
sical and chemical environment with molecular scale precision over a time
scale faster than that set by the mobility of transcription factors themse
 lves - in 'real time'.
