DESCRIPTION:Axion-like particles (ALPs) are a conjectured Beyond-the-Stand
ard-Model particle with good theoretical motivation. They \nare characteri
sed by interconversion of photons and ALPs in astrophysical magnetic field
s.\nAt X-ray energies galaxy clusters are the most efficient interconverto
rs of axion-like particles to photons in the universe.\nI discuss the phys
ics and phenomenology of ALPs\, in particular within galaxy clusters\, and
describe their astrophysical implications in relation\nto two topics: the
recently observed 3.5 keV line and the use of small-scale structure withi
n the X-ray thermal bremsstrahlung spectrum\nof galaxy clusters to search
 for/constrain ALPs.
