structure by tilting it into the fourth dimension) - Allan McRobie ( Engi

DESCRIPTION:Graphics statics is a product of the 19th century\, growing fr
om the classic works of Maxwell\, Cremona and Rankine.\nNowadays it is rar
ely taught outside architecture departments\, with finite elements having
long supplanted it in engineering. The subject is\, however\, presently un
dergoing something of a Renaissance.\n\nThis talk will look at some of the
more modern approaches\, much of it work still in progress. The motivatio
n is to create visual and intuitive tools for designers\, rather than anal
ysts.\n\nRecent innovations encompass some rather radical notions\, such a
s performing origami on your position vectors\, kirigami on your building
frames\, and tilting your trusses into the fourth dimension.\n
