DESCRIPTION:The MIDI standard has transformed how artists interact and wor
 k with music. Revolutionising their workflow\, from getting down those fir
 st inspired ideas to manipulating\, exploring and producing their works of
  art. But what is it? How did it come about? How does it work? These are s
 ome of the questions I shall attempt to answer and explore in this introdu
 ction to MIDI. I begin by speaking about how MIDI is used in the modern wo
 rld\, then delve into the history to provide a background and context for 
 the motivation of its development. I follow this with some details on the 
 protocol then finish with a demonstration and a discussion on the future a
 nd significance of MIDI.
