DESCRIPTION:Agent-based modelling (ABM) is becoming increasingly popular i
n public health. Applications include intervention development\, understan
ding complex public health systems and evaluating the public health impact
of public health interventions.\n\nThis seminar will introduce the opport
unities for ABM in public health\, describe how it can be useful for devel
oping public health interventions and discuss some of the challenges.\n\nS
NAP (Social Networks and Physical Activity) is a public health interventio
n that utilises social networks (i.e. the connections between people) to p
romote physical activity. To optimise the way in which those connections a
re used\, we are first building a simulation (SSNAP) using ABM to test dif
ferent intervention designs.\n\nThe seminar will be of interest to public
health interventionists\, public health modellers and physical activity re
 searchers.
