mals” - Dr. Ewan St. John Smith\, Department of Pharmacology\, Universit
 y of Cambridge

DESCRIPTION:Research in the Smith Lab is focused on understanding more abo
ut the molecular mechanisms by which stimuli activate neurones and the neu
ronal circuitry of behaviour. To this end\, our research has two overarchi
ng aims: \n\n1) To elucidate mechanisms by which acid activates pain-sensi
ng neurones (nociceptors) in inflammation\n\n2) To leverage the unusual ph
 enotypes of the naked mole-rat (e.g. cancer-resistance\, longevity\, hypox
ia/hypercapnia resistant and poikilothermy) to discover more about normal
 physiology in other mammals.
LOCATION:Department of Chemistry\, Cambridge\, Unilever lecture theatre
