DESCRIPTION:The main processes driving galaxy assembly from the end of rei
onization (z=6) to the peak of star formation activity (z=2) still remain
poorly constrained by observations. The VIMOS Ultra Deep Survey assembles
for the first time ~8000 star-forming galaxies with spectroscopic redshif
 ts and UV-rest spectra in the redshift range 2 < z < 6.5. I will present
the latest results from this survey\, including the analysis of galaxy age
 s and sizes\, Lyman-alpha emission\, merging history\, and the onset of en
vironmental effects in the first proto-structures.\n
