DESCRIPTION:This talk takes a historical view – starting with the first 
 proton –proton collider – the Intersecting Storage Rings (ISR) – and
  discusses the big steps forward necessary\nin accelerator physics\, super
 conducting magnet R&D\, detector design\, electronics\, computing and gene
 ral trends in collaboration organization that allowed us to discover the H
 iggs boson at the Large Hadron Collider in 2012. The most recent Higgs res
 ults from the LHC will be presented as well as the latest hints of new phy
 sics.
