DESCRIPTION:The Centre of Rising Powers (CRP) and the Cambridge University
  Southeast Asian Forum are pleased to invite you to a Roundtable Discussio
 n on the South China Sea with Bill Hayton\, Dr Andrés Villar Gertner\, an
 d Christian Schultheiss.\n\nThe South China Sea is where China's rising am
 bitions meet the United States' global primacy. It is also the arena in wh
 ich Southeast Asia will define its relations with its giant neighbor. The 
 struggle for ownership\, access\, and control in the South China Sea will 
 determine whether the coming 'Asian Century' will be a time of peace or cr
 isis. \n\nBill Hayton is a longtime reporter and producer with BBC News. H
 e is also currently an associate fellow at the Asia Programme at Chatham H
 ouse. Bill has authored books on the South China Sea disputes and on the t
 rajectory of Vietnam's economic development. He has also written from vari
 ous publications such as The Economist\, the South China Morning Post\, th
 e Financial Times\, and the Times. \n\nDr Andrés Villar Gertner holds a P
 hD in Politics and International Studies from the University of Cambridge.
  Prior to his doctoral studies\, he was political analyst in the Departmen
 t of Planning at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile (2007-09) and Re
 search Assistant at FLACSO-Chile (2003-07). He is currently a teaching ass
 ociate at the Cambridge Centre of Latin American Studies\, and a research 
 associate at the Cambridge Centre for Rising Powers. \n\nChristian Schulth
 eiss is a PhD candidate at the Cambridge Centre for Rising Powers. His PhD
  project analyses the various applications of maritime dispute settlement 
 mechanisms in the East and South China Sea disputes under the supervision 
 of Professor Marc Weller\, director of the Lauterpacht Centre for internat
 ional law. Christian graduated with distinction (MPhil) from Cambridge Uni
 versity in International Relations and he graduated with distinction (MA) 
 from Tübingen University in Philosophy\, Political Science and Literature
 . He has professional and research experience from positions at the Max Pl
 anck Institute for Biological Cybernetics\, the German Embassy in Ankara a
 nd the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in Singapore.
