DESCRIPTION:Douglas Call will be speaking about his career journey\, and h
 ow it brought him to his current position at PSI. He will also discuss how
  PSI applies marketing to public health issues\, from HIV to Malaria.\n\nD
 ouglas works for PSI\, a global health non-profit\, which is notable for u
 sing strategies such as franchising more commonly found in the private sec
 tor. They were founded in 1970 to improve reproductive health using commer
 cial marketing strategies. For its first 15 years\, PSI worked mostly in f
 amily planning (hence the name Population Services International). In 1985
 \, it started promoting oral rehydration therapy. PSI’s first HIV preven
 tion project — which promoted abstinence\, fidelity and condoms — bega
 n in 1988. PSI added malaria and safe water to its portfolio in the 1990s 
 and tuberculosis in 2004.\n\nAs managing director for PSI/Europe\, Douglas
  oversees PSI’s European Bureau based in Amsterdam. Prior to his current
  role\, Douglas served as Vice President for PSI's Southern Africa region.
  He has also served as PSI's Country Representative in Haiti and Madagasca
 r. In addition\, Douglas worked as Deputy Director of the USAID-funded AID
 SMark project. Prior to arriving at PSI\, Douglas worked at the World Bank
 \, the Peace Corps and was a Peace Corps volunteer in the Republic of Beni
 n. Douglas has a master’s in international economics/social change and d
 evelopment from The Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced Internatio
 nal Studies (SAIS) and a bachelor’s in government and philosophy from La
 wrence University.
