DESCRIPTION:Prof. Geoffrey Smith is the Head of the Department of Patholog
 y as well as President of the International Union of Microbiological Socie
 ties and Chairman to the WHO Advisory Committee for Variola Virus (smallpo
 x) Research. \n\nHis research focuses on vaccinia virus\, the live vaccine
  that played a crucial role in the eradication of smallpox. Specifically\,
  his lab look at the interplay between the host innate immune response and
  the vaccinia counter-attack. \n\nProf. Smith will be explaning his work i
 nto vaccinia virus and discussing his role as Chairman on The WHO Advisory
  Committee for Smallpox\, as well as demonstarting how public health measu
 res can be crucial in the eradication of disease. \n\nThe talk will be of 
 particular interest to those of you studying BOD and Part II Pathology and
