DESCRIPTION:Hydrodynamical numerical simulations of galaxy formation provi
de\nimportant insights about the non-linear emergence of cosmic\nstructure
 s. Numerically\, this problem requires a complicated mix of\nsolvers for c
ollisionless dynamics\, magnetohydrodynamics and radiative\ntransfer\, in
addition to long-range gravity. Physically\, the problem\nlies in understa
nding the back reaction of small-scale physics close\nin to black holes an
d stars onto much larger cosmological scales. I\nwill discuss a selection
of current results in this field and\nhighlight a few future directions\,
focusing on simulations of Milky\nWay-sized galaxies and the magnetic fiel
 ds they contain.
