DESCRIPTION:The Auroux-Kontsevich-Seidel criterion is a constraint on the 
 self-Floer cohomology of monotone Lagrangians\, which is important both co
 nceptually and in calculations.  It follows from the construction of a rin
 g homomorphism\, the closed-open string map\, from the quantum cohomology 
 of the ambient symplectic manifold into Floer cohomology.  In this talk I'
 ll try to give a non-technical introduction to these ideas.
