DESCRIPTION:Transmissible cancers are clonal cell lineages that “metasta
sise” between individuals by the physical transfer of living cancer cell
 s. Tasmanian devils\, marsupial carnivores endemic to the Australian islan
d of Tasmania\, are endangered due to a transmissible facial cancer that h
as spread widely and rapidly through their population. I will discuss our
genetic analysis of transmissible cancers in Tasmanian devils\; I will als
o present evidence for the recent emergence of a second transmissible faci
 al cancer in this species.
