DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, I will give a brief introduction to the clinica
l and epidemiological characteristics of psychotic disorders. I will give
an overview of the incidence of the disorders\, as well as discuss some of
the main environmental risk factors. \n\nOne consistent epidemiological f
inding is that incidence of psychotic disorders is significantly higher in
ethnic minority groups\, although exactly which group is most affected ap
pears to differ per host country. Various hypotheses have been suggested t
o explain this finding\, and I will discuss some of these. I will elaborat
e on the idea of otherness\, or difference from the majority population\,
as an explanatory paradigm and I will outline how I aim to test this withi
 n my PhD.
