DESCRIPTION:This talk is part of the 11th series of webinars for Professio
 nal Development in the Arts.\n\nSince last century\, the uses of music in 
 special education\, approaches to music education\, and the specific uses 
 of music therapy in education have evolved offering new educational and th
 erapeutic opportunities for people with disabilities and with special educ
 ational needs. Practice and research have increased in the last decades an
 d evidence-based results showed that the application of music therapy in t
 he field of special education has been effective in helping students with 
 a wide range of disabilities in non-musical and musical areas. This confer
 ence presents an overview of the uses of music therapy in the field of Edu
 cation based on theoretical and research findings of case studies that des
 cribe different approaches to the implementation of Music Therapy in Speci
 al Education.\n\n*Dr Patricia L. Sabbatella *(PhD\, EMTR Supervisor) is Se
 nior Lecturer in Music at the University of Cádiz (Spain) and Course Dire
 ctor of the Music Therapy Master Program. Educator\, Researcher and Clinic
 ian in the field of Music Therapy and Music Education with special interes
 t in Inclusive Music Education & Special Education\; Musical Development &
  Music Therapy Assessment\, and Music Therapy & Mental Health. Leader Rese
 archer of the University Research Group HUM 794: Music and Movement in Edu
 cation and Therapy (UCA Andalusian Research Programme). She has published 
 journal articles and book chapters in the fields of Music Education and Mu
 sic Therapy\, and has served on professional boards of the World Federatio
 n of Music Therapy (WFMT) and the European Music Therapy Confederation (EM
 TC).
