DESCRIPTION:I will give an introduction to the generalised geometry introd
 uced by Nigel Hitchin and his collaborators\, and outline how it is applie
 d in theoretical physics to describe closed string theory in compact space
 times. The second part of the talk introduces extended generalised geometr
 ies and some of my own work on Dorfman brackets for extended generalised t
 angent bundles.
