DESCRIPTION:Malaria continues to be one of the major global health concern
s\, with more than 200 million cases and 500\,000 deaths every year. Morta
lity rates have recently started to decline due to the widespread distribu
tion of insecticide treated bednets and new antimalarial drugs. However\,
these gains are under threat from the emergence and spread of drug resista
nt parasites and insecticide resistant mosquitoes. At the Wellcome Trust S
anger Institute\, the Malaria Programme uses an array of high throughput t
echniques\, from next generation sequencing to genome editing\, to underst
and malaria biology and pathogenesis\, and identify new drug and vaccine t
argets. The implications of these technologies for fields other than malar
ia\, and the overall scope of work at the Sanger Institute\, the home of t
he human genome\, will also be discussed.\n\n***FREE FOOD AND DRINK WILL B
