DESCRIPTION:In algebraic geometry over fields of characteristic p several
standard tools from characteristic 0 stop working. As a compensation for t
hese missing tools characteristic p provides a new one: the Frobenius morp
hism. The Frobenius morphism leads to the notion of Frobenius split and di
agonally split varieties. These properties have very strong consequences f
or the geometry of the variety. For example\, on diagonally split varietie
s every ample divisor is very ample and induces a projectively normal embe
dding. In this talk I will discuss how these properties behave in the pres
 ence of a torus action.
